HOW IT BEGAN

In marking the United Nations World Innovation and Creativity Day for the year 2021, Pistis Finserve organised an essay competition that sought to educate Nigerian young students about sustainability and sustainable behaviours. Our objective was to explore thoughts and ideas on the linkage between innovation, sustainability and the quest for a better world. As part of the competition, we asked students to think deeply, imagine and write about innovative solutions to any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they relate to Nigeria.

The theme for that competition was ‘Utilizing Innovation to Drive Environmental Sustainability’. The winners were provided with cash prizes, medals and plaques.
The first edition of the Essay Competition was so successful that the award event (hosted by Nile University, one of the largest private universities in Nigeria) was attended by the Nigerian Minister for the Environment as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Environment. Mr Sean Melbourne, the Head of Climate Change and Energy, West Africa for the British High Commission spoke at the event as the Keynote Speaker.
